Susan Burk, owner
At seventeen, Susan Burk, affectionately referred to as, “Ms Sue,” sold her first work of art and held her first summer art camp, “Camp Creative.”
She studied at San Diego State University while accumulating a portfolio to enter the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. After earning her degree, she studied abroad in Geneva, Switzerland for one year. Upon her return to the U.S., Ms. Sue pursued a career in graphic design and packaging, art directing and designing for some of the top advertising agencies in California, all while exhibiting her own work. Her relocation to Texas in 2007 returned her to her pure passion to paint, create and teach. She began “Ms. Sue’s Art Studio” in her mother’s house in Fair Oaks Ranch by teaching one private lesson to a third grader. Within 4 months she had more than 30 kids coming for classes. In 2013 she was gifted the property where the studio is currently located in Boerne, Texas. She has added to her staff and programs to accommodate the growing interest in creativity for children, teens and adults. Ms. Sue married retired Army officer, Col. Kevin Burk in 2017 and together have four married children and two grand babies (as of 2025)!
Pauly Tamez
We are so excited to have Mr. Pauly Tamez in the studio this Fall to
co-teach with Ms. Sue for the High School Studio and Advanced Art Class on Wednesdays. Ms. Sue calls him “Pwauleeeeee!”
Pauly has been a family friend and welcome sight at Ms. Sue’s for nearly 15 years. He is an award-winning plein air painter and has taught numerous workshops and oil painting classes at Ms. Sue’s and all over the Hill country! If Pauly stops in at Ms. Sue’s, he is doing one of three things; teaching a class, painting the landscape, or enjoying a beer with Ms. Sue and Col. Kevin discussing all the world’s problems and how we can solve them.
Pauly and his wife, Linda, and 2 dogs, Pee Wee and Gracie, live in the Hill Country west of Boerne.
Hannah Harris
Hannah has been a student of Ms. Sue’s for several years and has enjoyed being a member of the Advanced Art Studio class the past two. She has worked extremely hard at developing her talents in sculpting, drawing and painting. She also assists Ms. Sue at the studio, sometimes also teaching the Young Remi’s (“Remi” is short for “Rembrandt” but Ms. Sue didn’t copyright the name… well anyways..) classes. This young lady has cleaned a lot of paint brushes! As a 2025 High School graduate, Hannah aims to continue to create inspiring works of art, and writings that honor God. She will continue refining her classical artistic and teaching capabilities in mentorship with Ms. Sue while attending college locally in the fall.
Jennifer Hill
Ten years ago Ms. Sue met Jennifer when she stopped at the studio one day to ask if she could drop off the trash she had picked up along Old Fredericksburg Road while out walking with her dogs. Soon after, Ms. Sue began teaching art to her 12 year old daughter. The rest is history. Ms. Sue and Jennifer became fast friends and weekly prayer partners. She has been praying with Ms. Sue over the studio, her students and their families ever since. Jennifer is a highly capable individual and being retired from the corporate world, demonstrates the gift of service. She works part time doing child care at her church for a homeschool co-op, and helps to run Camp Creative at Ms. Sue’s in the summer months. She is also busy each week at Hill Country Daily Bread volunteering her time. In her spare time, (not sure when that could be..) she enjoys quilting and is a member of a quilting guild. If you have been in Boerne or Fair Oaks for a couple years, you will know her as “The smiling, waving, dog-walking lady of Old Fredericksburg Road”. Jennifer is a mother of two grown children, wife of Eddie, and friend to everyone she meets.
Jaime Harris
Jaime is another blessing dropped on Ms. Sue’s Art Studio. This relationship began when Jaime signed her daughter Hannah up for classes soon after moving to Boerne back in 2021. (See Hannah’s bio above). Jaime, a busy mother of three homeschooled kids, and wife to Joseph, would stop in to pick up her daughter from class and just start organizing and cleaning, offering prayer or help where needed, so, no brainer, Ms. Sue hired her! Jaime is Ms. Sue’s “calm” and very talented. She is a technology genius (according to Ms. Sue) and has had a long career in design making Jaime a valuable team member for marketing, social media, and art show event planning. Jaime helps with anything and everything out front and in the background at Ms. Sue’s and she is a trusted and faithful friend. In her free time, she has blended her love for pen, paper and pretty fonts into the fictional book series The Tears She Cried, which launched in 2024.
